Legal Advice · Yokohama
Some questions call for a clear position, not a general answer.
Kelp Path Field works with individuals and companies on civil, corporate and property matters — taking each situation as its own, without reducing it to a template.
Start a conversationWhat we offer
What does working with a legal adviser in Yokohama look like, in practice?
It looks like a conversation, not a transaction. You come with a situation — a contract you are uncertain about, a transfer you are considering, a set of documents that need handling overseas. We read it carefully, establish the relevant obligations, and tell you what the position is.
There is no obligation to continue after the initial exchange. Many matters are resolved at that point. Others require more sustained work, and we can discuss what that would involve.
How we work
Three things that shape every matter we handle
Positioned, not vague
A legal opinion that avoids taking a position is not very useful. We will tell you what the situation looks like, what options are open, and what we would suggest — not just list the possibilities.
No unnecessary complexity
Legal matters carry enough genuine complexity. We do not add to it with unexplained terminology or lengthy correspondence that restates what you already told us. The work is kept to what is required.
Written record throughout
Every stage is documented. You will have a written account of what was reviewed, what was found, and what steps were taken — a record you can refer to later without relying on memory of a phone call.
Process
How a matter opens and proceeds
You describe the situation
Send a brief note through the contact form — what the matter involves, what you are trying to understand or achieve, and any documents already in your hands. No prior legal knowledge is assumed.
We review and respond with scope
After reviewing what you have sent, we will write back with a clear description of what a reasonable scope of work would look like, what it would cover, and what the fixed fee would be for that scope.
You decide whether to proceed
If the scope and fee make sense for your situation, we open the matter formally. If not, the exchange costs you nothing. There is no obligation attached to the initial conversation.
We work through it and deliver
The work proceeds according to the agreed scope, with written updates at key points. At the end, you receive a written output covering everything reviewed — findings, gaps, recommendations and next steps if applicable.
In numbers

Practice areas — civil, corporate and property — kept distinct so each receives the attention it requires.
Fixed
Fees agreed in advance for every matter. No hourly billing, no invoice that exceeds what was discussed.
Written
Every output delivered in writing, structured so it can be read and used independently of any conversation.
Why clients come to Kelp Path Field
"We needed to understand what our internal documentation was missing before a partner audit. The gap list we received was ordered by exposure, not by length — that was exactly what we needed to prioritise."
— Operations lead, mid-size importer · June 2025
"The document certification took less time than I expected. More importantly, I was told upfront what the receiving consulate would require and what the realistic timeline was — no surprises."
— Individual client, property purchase abroad · May 2025
Services
What Kelp Path Field handles
Each service is scoped and priced as a fixed engagement. If your situation overlaps two areas, we will say so and suggest the appropriate starting point.
Compliance Documentation Review
A structured review of a company's internal documents against the obligations applying to its sector — covering information handling, record retention and supplier due diligence. Four to five weeks.
Business Transfer Advice
Advice on the sale or purchase of a business or its assets — structure, due diligence, transfer agreements, and treatment of employees and contracts. Six to ten weeks depending on scale.
Document Certification and Procedures
Handling of documentary procedures — notarisation, certified translations, apostille and consular procedures, and powers of attorney. One to three weeks depending on the receiving country.
Next step
If you have a matter in mind, a brief description is enough to start.
There is no consultation fee for the initial exchange. We read what you send, and we write back with a clear account of what work would involve and what it would cost.
From there, you decide. No commitment is assumed from either side until a scope has been agreed in writing.
